NORMANDIE GOURMET TOUR & VILLAGE VISIT and Michelin-Star lunch
Cheese and Cider are two of the most loved specialties of Normandy. This tour takes you away from the crowded Normandy tourist sites and into the true traditions of the Normandy Region. Our Normandy Gourmet tour will first take you to a cheese-making facility. This is a unique concept allowing visitors to discover cheese workshops through a corridor of glass-protected galleries, from where visitors may understand all the different stages of cheese production from the time the milk arrives until the cheese is packaged. After the visit, enjoy a cheese tasting session: individual platters (portions of Livarot, Pont l’Evêque, Normandy Camembert, and Neufchâtel), bread and apple cider, which Normandy is well known for.
Then reach one of the most beautiful villages of France on the Cider and Calvados trails. Its half-timbered houses, old covered market, and surrounding manor houses make it a treat to discover. Here you will have some time to stroll through the village on your own for personal discovery.
Lunch: This 1-Star Michelin restaurant (included) is located in the center of the village of Beuvron en Auge. After lunch and some free time for a stroll in the village. Then it will be time to drive to our final destination.
Finally, reach a local Calvados distillery located in the heart of the Pays d’Auge. This family-owned estate produces some of the most famous Cider, Calvados, and Pommeau of Normandy. Here, more than 25 varieties of apples are grown on the 30 hectares of orchards composed of either standard trees or cordons trees. You will participate in a commented tasting of the local spirits.
Discovery the jewels of ARCACHON BAY
At its southern entrance from the Atlantic Ocean, Arcachon Bay is crowned by Europe’s largest sand dune, the Dune de Pyla (or du Pilat), nearly 3 kilometers long, 500 meters wide, reaching 107 meters in height, and moving inland at a rate of 5 meters a year. Today, depart from Bordeaux and head towards this landlocked sea known as “The Arcachon bay”.
Upon arrival, discover the oyster sheds that are laid in rows one next to each other and that belong to the local oyster farmers that make this destination so well known to all French oyster aficionados. Here you will have the opportunity to taste some oysters accompanied with fresh baguette, lightly salted butter and white wine of course.
For lunch, we have selected one of our preferred local restaurants (Included). The most famous restaurants here specialize in seafood that pairs perfectly with local Bordeaux white wines.
The afternoon will be dedicated either to the visit of the lovely resort town of Arcachon, with its many shopping opportunities as well as numerous arts & crafts shops that sell locally made art works. Or, for the adventurous ones, to climb the Dune du Pilat sand dune. Located just a few miles away from Arcachon, this is Europe's largest dune and it can be climbed by way of a staircase. At the top, the view over the bay is spectacular.
